Windows System Support
In the effort to provide a heterogeous mix of systems that will meet the computing needs of all members,
MSRI supports Windows XP and Windows NT systems on its network and welcomes members with
Windows laptops to establish connections to our wireless network.
Recommended Use
The public Windows systems on the MSRI network are provided for members
who need access to Microsoft-specific applications such as MS Word and
Excel. We do not provide personal Windows accounts for members, consequently
access to these systems is by way of the wrkshpgst account only.
In the effort to keep these systems running optimally, we ask that you refrain from installing any applications
on these systems.
Email on Windows Machines
Because the wkshpgst account is shared, it is not possible to maintain the privacy usually
associated with email when using these accounts. For this primary reason,
there is no email software installed on any MSRI Windows system. As there
is no adequate work-around, the alternative solution would be to use your web-based e-mail account. For additional
