Wireless Printing
You can print from the wireless network by adding our printers to your machine. Currently, we have one wireless printer per floor. One is
located in the library, one in the computer lab, and one on the northern side of the third floor.
These printers must be added to your machine according to their IP address:
| Floor | Location | Name of Printer* | Printer Model** | IP Address |
| 1st Floor | Library | LibHP | HP LaserJet 4000 | 10.10.0.31 |
| 2nd Floor | Computer Lab, rm. 205 | 2ndFloorHP | HP LaserJet 8150 | 10.10.0.30 |
| 3rd Floor | North wing, next to rm. 330 | 3rdFloorHP | HP LaserJet 8150 | 10.10.0.29 |
* - "Name of Printer" refers only to the label on the printer.
** - The "Printer Model" links will go to the Hewlett Packard website where you can download drivers for the specified printer.
To add these printers to your computer, follow the instructions for your operating system:
Windows XP:
- Go to Start->Control Panel->Printers and Fax
- Click "Add a Printer"
- Hit "Next", then choose to add a "Local printer", and uncheck the box that says
"Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer". Hit Next.
- Select "Create a new port" and choose "Standard TCP/IP Port" from the drop-down menu. Hit Next.
- The "Add Standard TCP/IP Port Wizard" will open a new window. Hit Next to start.
- Enter the address for the printer you wish to add. For example, enter in 10.10.0.29 for the printer on the third floor. Hit Next.
- If you are then given an option to choose from "Parallel 1", "Parallel 2", or "Parallel 3", choose "Parallel 1". Hit next.
- A new window pops up prompting you to choose your printer driver. Choose "HP" from the
left column and the appropriate printer model from the right column, such as "HP LaserJet 8150 PS" or "HP LaserJet 4000 PS". Hit Next.
- Choose the options you like in the next few windows, and you are finished.
Macintosh:
- Go to "System Preferences", then choose "Print & Fax" [listed under "Hardware"]
- Under "Printing", click on the "Set up Printers..." button. This will open the Printer List window
- Click the "Add" button at the top of the Printer List window
- Choose "IP Printing" from the first menu, then "Socket/HP Jet Direct" under "Printer Type",
then type in the IP address from the table above for the printer you want to add in "Printer Address". I.e., type in 10.10.0.29
to add the third floor printer.
The "Printer Model" should be the model listed in the table above, such as the HP LaserJet 8150 for the third or second floor printers.
- Click "Add".
Linux:
- These instructions vary with each distribution and windows manager, but you can
usually add a printer via your computer's graphical printer manager, typically listed under "System Settings" or "System Tools".
- The basics of what you must do is add an "HP Jet Direct printer" located at the IP address of the appropriate printer, using the 9100 port
[which is the default].
- For example, if you wanted to add the third floor printer to your Linux laptop's CUPS server,
you would add a printer with Device URI socket://10.10.0.29:9100
- If your computer does not list "HP LaserJet 8150" or even "HP LaserJet Series",
you can probably find the appropriate PPD for your printer online, or your window manager's graphical
printer manager may have a utility to search online for the appropriate driver for your computer.
If your OS is not listed here or does not fit our instructions, please come see us in room 214,
or email us at computing@msri.org.
