Seminar on homological methods in representation theory: "On the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of rings of polynomial invariants"

May 01, 2008    01:30 PM to 02:30 PM
Simons Auditorium
Speaker: Peter Symonds

We have shown that when a finite group acts on a polynomial ring over a finite field then the ring of invariants has regularity at most zero.
We will discuss what this means and how it implies the truth of some less technical conjectures on the degrees of the generators of the ring of invariants.
We will also talk about some of the machinery that goes into the proof:
regularity, relatively projective resolutions and our structure theorem for the group action.
