Coxeter and Artin groups

Monday August 27, 2007

10:30AM - 11:20AM

Speakers:
Ruth Charney

Abstract:

Coxeter groups and Artin groups are a rich source of examples and counterexamples in geometric group theory. Many of them are known to have nice algebraic properties and to act geometrically on CAT(0) spaces. This series of talks will begin with a general introduction to the geometry of Coxeter and Artin groups, then focus on some particularly interesting examples and applications, and conclude with a discussion of current areas of research.
