Rank of the fundamental group and Heegaard genus of thick non-Haken hyperbolic 3-manifolds

Monday November 12, 2007

09:15AM - 10:30AM

Speakers:
Juan Souto

Abstract:

I will describe how to prove that for every $k$ and $\epsilon$
there is $g$ such that every non-Haken hyperbolic 3-manifold with at least
injectivity radius $\epsilon$ and whose fundamental group is generated by
$k$ elements admits a genus $g$ Heegaard splitting. This is a joint work
with Ian Biringer.
