k-Schur functions via multidegrees of Matrix Affine Schubert Varieties

Thursday March 20, 2008

11:00AM - 12:00PM

Speakers:
Mark Shimozono

Abstract:

The Lapointe-Lascoux-Morse k-Schur functions
are the Schubert basis of Bott's realization of the
homology of the affine Grassmannian of SL_n,
as proved by Thomas Lam.
I will describe a new construction of the k-Schur functions
that is analogous to the
Knutson-Miller realization of Schubert
polynomials as multidegrees of Schubert varieties
in the flag variety. This is ongoing work that
is my student Cory Brunson's thesis project.
