| This workshop will be an intensive two-day introductory minicourse on elliptic PDE. L C Evans will present a series of lectures on the basic theory and estimates for linear and nonlinear elliptic equations, with applications to variational problems and to nonlinear systems. A Chang will lecture on applications of elliptic PDE to conformal geometry and other geometric problems. This meeting will bring together advanced graduate students, recent postdocs and established mathematicians, and will provide background for the following week's Introductory Workshop in in Nonlinear Elliptic Equations and their Applications (MSRI, August 15-19, 2005). An opportunity for everyone to introduce themselves and some of their interests and concerns (we will use a format called 'Offer & Ask'). II. Based on the themes that emerge from 'Offer & Ask', we will focus the remainder of the discussion on a few topics of mutual interest to the group (these topics might fall within the broader categories of 'work/life balancing', 'networking and career development', 'resource sharing', 'how-to's, etc... The particulars of the discussion will be determined by the specific interests of the group members.) |
