Streaming Video

This material is based upon work supported by the National Science Foundation.

In order to view these lectures, you will need the RealPlayer version 8.0 or later.. RealPlayer is available free from RealNetworks. Currently, version 10 is available for most platforms. Please Note: You do not need the enhanced version. Also, the location of the free version within the RealNetworks web site is ever-changing and often obscure; with perseverance, you will find it.

It is assumed that you are connected to the Internet via a Local Area Network---not by a 28.8kb phone modem. Furthermore, since the audio of the lecture is an important component, you will need a sound card. For that reason, RealPlayer will not work on an X-terminal.

VMath - The Next Generation for Math Lectures

Starting in 2004 a generous grant from William R. Hearst III, and technical contributions from the Internet Archive and Brewster Kahle, will enable MSRI to take the next steps. The best features of our old system will be kept: free access and the avoidance of anything that disturbs the presenter. But we will:
  1. Improve the production values, lighting, and sharpness of the videos to nearly cinematic quality, and make use of available bandwidth.
  2. Make lecture notes, and associated documents available as PDFs.
  3. Encourage individuals and institutions to establish special collections of our videos, possibly annotated, for locally given courses and seminars.
  4. Greatly improve the indexing and accessibility of the material on the videos
  5. Make individual DVDs of any lecture available by mail on a low-cost basis.
As MSRI nears the unveiling of the new VMath site, you can have a preview of some of our videos produced through VMath at the Internet Archive. Currently Internet Archive hosts many new videos not currently on our site. MSRI's colletion can be found at http://www.archive.org/movies/collection.php?collection=msri

You may also browse our collection of almost 400 videos at Internet Archive through our own pages at http://angelina.msri.org/IA/Show_Talks_By_SName. Please note that these pages are a work in progress and is not the final version of how we will present the collection to you. This is a sneek peak at things to come!
