This lecture is an introduction to matroids by way of their associated matroid polytopes. Many examples are calculated. The inequality presentation of the matroid polytope can be extracted from deletion and contraction when the matroid is connected. Finally, White's conjecture for the basis monomial ring is discussed, and the connection to the Bergman fan are outlined.
