SHORTCUT:

Hyperplane Arrangements and Special Relativity.

Combinatorial Aspects of Hyperplane Arrangements
November 03,2004 09:30 AM to 10:30 AM
Speakers:
Stanley, Richard
VMath - The Next Generation for Math Lectures on Streaming Video

Summary:

The lecture is a survey of the characteristic polynomial of arrangements
of hyperplanes. The charateristic polynomial yields much information about
the arrangement. For example, the number of regions, the Hilbert series of
the cohomology of the complement, some information about the Smith normal
form of a certain matrix, the exponents of a free arrangment, and much
more. To finish results on Linial, Catalan, Semioreder, and Shi
arrangements are discussed.

Keywords:

Hyperplane arrangements; Lorentz transform; Minkowski; spacetime; graphical arrangments.
