SHORTCUT:

Phase Transition in Phylogeny

Phase Transitions in Computation and Reconstruction
March 07, 2005 02:30 PM to 02:50 PM
Speakers:
VMath - The Next Generation for Math Lectures on Streaming Video

Summary:

This talk will survey the role that the reconstruction problem plays in the
reconstruction of ancestral relationship between species, named
Phylogeny. Mathematically speaking, the question is how to reconstruct a Markov
model on a tree given samples at the leaves. This problem present fascinating challenges from Statistics,
Algorithms, and the theory of Markov Models on trees. Based in part on joint works with
M. Steel and Sebastien Roch.
