Abstract:

In this talk, we will discuss coding strategies for the general three- node relay channel. We start with the well known achievability results of Cover and El Gamal, which superimpose decode-and-forward (DF) and compress-and-forward (CF). We then describe several new strategies which also superimpose DF and CF, and make use of sequential and simultaneous backward decoding. The rates with the simultaneous backward decoding strategy are shown to contain those of Cover and El Gamal.
