VMath - The Next Generation for Math Lectures on Streaming Video

Abstract:

This first lecture will be a general introduction to two related topics: grid diagrams for knots and links in S3, and Legendrian and transverse knots in contact topology. We will discuss how isotopy problems for Legendrian and transverse knots can be restated using grid diagrams, and describe the combinatorial formulation of knot Floer homology via grid diagrams (originally due to Manolescu-Ozsvath-Sarkar).
