Classical Theory of the Harmonic Crystal

Treating the coupled harmonic oscillators as a classical system one derives a specific heat of per ion which is the classical Dulong-Petit result. The system can be described in terms of the normal modes of the lattice vibrations which are parametrized over the Brillouin zone, at least in the case of a monatomic lattice (one atom per lattice site) which we are considering.
