I will talk about subtle diffenence between various notions of rational connectedness. In particular, I will show certain rationally connected surfaces are indeed strongly rationally connected. This confirms a conjecture due to Hassett-Tschinkel. Then I will talk about how to apply this result to prove the weak approximation of some rational surfaces over functional fields of curves.
