We will present several methods to obtain uniform (sharp) upper bounds for the number of generators of ideals.
These bounds will depend on fixing some invariants of the ideal, for instance the Hilbert function or the Hilbert polynomial, both in the graded and in the local setting.
In particular we will show how classical results such as Macaulay's Theorem and some of its recent generalizations follow from a unified approach.
