Parking: From the AirportBay Area Rapid Transit BART (our ‘subway/metro’ system) began airport service in June 2003. To Berkeley, take the SFO train 5 stops to the Balboa Park transfer station and transfer to the Richmond train. (You can change to the Richmond train at any station before West Oakland, you just won’t hear the transfer announcements.) Effective November 1, 2003, boarding locations at SFO changed, now boarding at Arrival Baggage Level #1. It is important that you call the BayPorter Dispatcher from the airport because vans are only allowed at the terminals while actively boarding passengers. At the Coliseum station, buy a BART ticket from a machine; the fare to Berkeley (one-way) is $1.80 to $2.00. BART runs M-F 4:00 a.m. to midnight, Sat. 6 a.m. to midnight, Sun. 8 a.m. to midnight. Take the northbound RICHMOND train, exit at one of the three Berkeley stations depending upon your destination. If you are coming directly to MSRI, from the Ashby Station, it is a 10 block walk, 8 blocks east up Ashby and 2 blocks north on Telegraph, OR take the AC transit bus #9 east up Ashby, exit on Telegraph and walk 2 blocks north to 2850 Telegraph. With luggage, it may be easier to exit at the Downtown Berkeley Station, take the AC transit bus #40 to Telegraph Ave. & Oregon St. and exit directly in front of MSRI (2850 Telegraph).
