Description

The purpose of the school will be to introduce graduate students to foundational results in commutative algebra, with particular emphasis of the diversity of the related topics with commutative algebra. Some of these topics are developing remarkably in this decade and through learning those subjects the graduate students will be stimulated toward future research.

 

 

 

 

Suggested prerequisites:

  • complete local ring
  • Cohen-Macaulay ring
  • basic knowledge of homological algebra (derived functors, Ext, Tor, etc)
  • basic knowledge on depth and projective dimension of modules
  • Matlis duality
  • definition of Spec and Zariski topology
  • basic knowledge of free resolutions and finite free resolutions
Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology will provide all accepted participants with accommodation and meals
Participants will be accepted from two categories:
 
(I) MSRI Students:

(II) Japanese Students:

  • Students from Japan should email the Japanese Office, providing the following information:
  1. Name of applicant
  2. Name of university
  3. Year in graduate school
  4. Short recommendation letter by your advisor
  5. Whether you will need travel support (domestic travel support only)
  • Nominations will be accepted in principle on a first-come, first-served basis up to the limits of the capacity of the summer school.
  • If the school is full, students will be kept on a waiting list
  • The nomination period is December 1, 2016 - February 1, 2017
  • Early nominations will not be accepted
