SHORTCUT:

2010 Mathematical Sciences Research Institute Undergraudate Program
MSRI-UP in Berkeley, CA
June 12, 2010 to July 25, 2010
Application Information

A complete application consists of four items:
  1. Student Application Form.
Fill out this part first. This form consists of the student's personal information, the contact information of a Faculty Reference, a summary of mathematics and science courses taken, a list of courses in which the student is presently enrolled/will take by summer 2010, and a list of summer programs in which the student has participated (if applicable).

Due to funding restrictions, only U.S. citizens and permanent residents are eligible to apply.

  2. Transcripts.
Upload a copy of your transcripts showing courses and grades from all post-secondary institutions that you have attended. Unofficial copies (as long as they are legible) of transcripts are acceptable. Transcripts should contain Fall 2009 grades.

  3. Statement of Interest.
Write a personal statement (300 - 800 words) addressing your interest in mathematics, science, engineering, or some other related discipline, and why you would like to participate in the 2010 MSRI-UP. You may write in any style, but try to address the origins of your interest in mathematics and science, experiences (school-related and other) that have particularly stimulated you, and future educational and career plans and aspirations.

  4. Faculty Reference Letter of Recommendation.
Your Faculty Reference should be someone from whom you have taken a class or with whom you have done independent mathematical or scientific work. The person you identify as the Faculty Reference will be notified to fill out an on-line form and upload a letter of recommendation. Although the person will be notified automatically by email, it is the student's responsibility to make sure the letter is uploaded in time. The student should contact the Faculty Reference to verify that he/she has been contacted by MSRI-UP.

A personalized form for each student's Faculty Reference will be generated once the Student Application Form is completed.

For full consideration, applications are due February 28, 2010; review of applications begins immediately thereafter.

Students may check if their applications are complete on the Status Check page.
