Phillips Academy girl representing U.S. at Math Olympiad this week

Local Scholars: Education news about those in secondary school

The Mathematical Sciences Research Institute says it will send a team of high school girls from throughout the United States to participate in the 2010 China Girls Mathematical Olympiad, and a Phillips Academy student is one of the eight girls on the team.

The international competition is being held this week, from Aug. 9-13, in Shijiazhuang, China, the capital of Hebei Provence, about 40 miles southwest of Beijing.

Representing the United States on the girls math team is Jae Eui Shin, a senior at Phillips Academy in Andover.

The team's eight high school students were chosen from the top ranks of the female finalists in the 2010 USA Mathematical Olympiad.

The girls will write an online travelogue with photos to capture and share highlights from their trip to the CGMO, available at msri.org.
