Bay area girls win math Olympiad medals

A team of 8 high school girls sent to Shenzhen, China to compete in the China Math Olympiad have returned home with medals.

The 8 girls, who were sent to the Olympiad by the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (MSRI) in Berkeley, won 2 golds, 1 silver and 5 bronzes. From the Bay Area, Danielle Wang of Campbell won a gold medal; Julia Huang of Saratoga won a silver medal; and Rebecca Burks of Los Altos won a bronze medal.

The girls were chosen from the country's best math students through a series of mathematics examinations and had to go through a three-week training in Nebraska in June before heading to Shenzhen last week.
