MSRI-UP 2013 Staff

Ivelisse Rubio, On-Site Director

Ive is a Professor at the Computer Science Department of University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras and has a PhD in Applied Mathematics from Cornell University. Her research interests are in the area of finite fields and their applications. She has directed undergraduate research projects in computational mathematics of numerous minority students and has been involved in many activities to promote undergraduate research in mathematics. She co-founded and co-directed the REU Summer Institute in Mathematics for Undergraduates (SIMU) (1998-2002) and the REU MSRI-UP (2007-present). Ive is also a member of the US National Committee for Mathematics and of the American Mathematical Monthly Editorial Board.

Rosa Orellana, Research Director

Rosa C. Orellana is an Associate Professor of Mathematics at Dartmouth College. Before arriving at Dartmouth, she won a University of California President's Posdoctoral Fellowship at UC San Diego.  Her research is in algebraic combinatorics and representation theory.   Recently her work has focused on the Kronecker product of two irreducible representations of the symmetric group.  She has mentored numerous research students at Dartmouth College.  She received the John M. Manley Huntington Memorial Award at Dartmouth for newly tenured faculty for outstanding research, teaching and mentoring.  She co-founded a chapter of the Association for Women in Mathematics in an effort to increase the number of women taking and majoring in mathematics at Dartmouth. She has also organized two Sonia Kovalevsky Math days at Dartmouth to encourage middle and high school girls to study mathematics.

Candice Price, Post-doc

Candice Price is an Assistant Professor at the United States Military Academy at West Point. She is also a National Research Council Davies Fellow. Candice earned her PhD at the University of Iowa, her MS at San Francisco State University and BS at California State University Chico. Her research interests include Topology, Knot Theory, DNA Topology and Mathematical Biology. She is active in the mathematical community and is a founding member of the Underrepresented Students in Topology and Algebra Research Symposium (USTARS).

Alexander Diaz, Graduate Assistant

Alexander Diaz Lopez is a graduate student at the University of Notre Dame. His research interests are in Coxeter groups, Iwahori-Hecke Algebras and their relationships with representation theory.

Samuel Ivy, Graduate Assistant

Samuel is a graduate student at North Carolina State University.  His research interests include Lie Theory, Representation Theory and Symbolic Computation.
