2012 Mathematical Sciences Research Institute Undergraduate Program
MSRI-UP in Berkeley, CA
June 16, 2012 to July 29, 2012
Applications for the 2012 program will start being collected on December 1, 2011.
A complete application consists of four items:
- Student Application Form (Currently the application process is closed)
Fill out this part first. This form consists of:
- the student's personal information
- the contact information of a Faculty Reference
- a summary of mathematics and science courses taken
- the prerequisite for the summer 2012 program is ...
- a list of courses in which the student is presently enrolled/will take by summer 2011, and
- a list of summer programs in which the student has participated (if applicable)
Due to funding restrictions, only U.S. citizens and permanent residents are eligible to apply.
Students who have already graduated or will have graduated with a bachelor's degree by June 16, 2012 are not eligible to apply.
Upload a copy of your transcripts showing courses and grades from all post-secondary institutions that you have attended. Unofficial copies (as long as they are legible) oftranscripts are acceptable. Transcripts should contain Fall 2011 grades.
- Statement of Interest.
Write a personal statement (300 - 800 words) addressing your interest inmathematics, science, engineering, or some other related discipline, and why you would like to participate in the 2011 MSRI-UP. You may write in any style, but try to address the origins of your interest in mathematics and science, experiences (school-related and other) that have particularly stimulated you, and future educational and career plans and aspirations.
- Faculty Reference Letter of Recommendation.
Your Faculty Reference should be someone from whom you have taken a class or with whom you havedone independent mathematical or scientific work. The person you identify as the Faculty Reference will be notified to fill out an on-line form and upload a letter of recommendation. Although the person will be notified automatically by email, it is the student's responsibility to make sure the letter is uploaded in time. The student should contact the Faculty Reference to verify that he/she has been contacted by MSRI-UP.
A personalized form for each student's Faculty Reference will be generated once the Student Application Form is completed.
For full consideration, applications are due March 1, 2012; review of applications begins immediately thereafter.
