Clay Mathematics Institute Introductory Workshop in Operator Algebras
Aug 24, 2000 to Sep 2, 2000

Organizer(s)

D. Bisch (chair), E.G. Effros, V.F.R. Jones and D.V. Voiculescu
To apply for funding, you must register by Sat, Sep 02 2000.
This workshop introduces graduate students and other scientists to the exciting area of Operator Algebras. It will feature three series of introductory lectures and a number of one-hour lectures on recent research topics followed by informal discussions.

The main lecture series will be:
Richard V. Kadison: The Theory of Operator Algebras - A Survey
Mihai Pimsner: Introduction to K-theory for Operator Algebras
Antony Wassermann/Valerio Toledano Laredo: Operator Algebras and Conformal Field Theory

In addition, Fields Medalist Vaughan Jones will present several introductory lectures.

Funding

To apply for funding, you must register by Sat, Sep 02 2000. Click to Register
Students, recent Ph.D.'s, women, and members of underrepresented minorities are particularly encouraged to apply. Funding awards are made typically 6 weeks before the workshop begins. Requests received after the funding deadline are considered only if additional funds become available.
