As part of the full-year 2000-2001 program on Operator Algebras, MSRI will host a one-week NATO
ADVANCED RESEARCH WORKSHOP on Simple C*-algebras and Non-commutative Dynamical
Systems, September 25-29, 2000.

This workshop covers two closely allied areas in operator algebras. The first significant applications of
the ongoing classification of simple nuclear C*-algebras has provided important new invariants for
the study of dynamical systems. On the other hand, dynamical systems provide a valuable source of
new examples of simple C*-algebras. It is anticipated that there will be considerable interaction
between the two groups coming to the workshop.

Students, recent Ph.D.'s, women, and members of underrepresented minorities are particularly encouraged to apply. Funding awards are made typically 6 weeks before the workshop begins. Requests received after the funding deadline are considered only if additional funds become available.
