WeBWorK is web-based homework program first developed 8 years ago at the University of Rochester. It is currently being used at more than 50 institutions, many of which are actively contributing to the further development of WeBWorK.
The purpose of this working seminar is to bring face-to-face programmers who are already involved in implementing, extending and maintaining the WeBWorK homework system on various campuses in order to hammer out standards for future development, prioritize and assign programming development tasks, design protocols for labeling and sharing problem sets, and map out a strategy for producing more comprehensive documentation. This should allow future users to easily adopt the program. WeBWorK is, and will continue to be, open source software. There will be one or two general lectures describing WeBWorK to other visitors at MSRI on Friday, May 21 and a few more specialized lectures describing in greater detail some of the modules of the existing code to each other. Students, recent Ph.D.'s, women, and members of underrepresented minorities are particularly encouraged to apply. Funding awards are made typically 6 weeks before the workshop begins. Requests received after the funding deadline are considered only if additional funds become available.
