This intensive two-day workshop for women will introduce advanced graduate students and recent PhDs to current areas of research in Statistics and Computational Topology.
It will consist of introductory mini-courses and talks, as well as a hands on computer session (bring your own laptops) participants will be encouraged to bring their own data. The aim of the first mini-course, to be given by S. Holmes, is to show how multidimensional scaling and other eigenvector based methods have been successful in finding structure in high dimensional data. Sarah Day will give a mini-course on Topological methods for Dynamical Systems. Other talks will cover multidimensional statistical analyses and computational topology. The workshop is part of the semester program, Computational Applications of Algebraic Topology, and some additional funding will be available for participants to attend an associated workshop, Introductory Workshop on Computational Applications of Algebraic Topology from the 5th to 8th of September. The woman's workshop will be a good introduction to this second workshop.
