Summer Graduate Workshop
Summer Graduate Workshop in Computational Number Theory
Jul 31, 2006
to
Aug 11, 2006
Organizer(s)William Stein (University of Washington)
Invite Only
Please note that this is an Invitation Only Workshop and it is not
open to the public.
ContactThis workshop will concentrate on computing with modular forms, providing students with the necessary background in both the theoretical and computational aspects of the subject. The workshop will have both classical and p-adic and/or higher rank components. The instructors for the program are
Lassina Dembele, Paul Gunnells, David Kohel, William Stein, and Gabor Wiese. For detail on the structure of this summer workshop, go to Computing with Modular Forms. The organizer is in the process of co-authoring a book with Paul Gunnells to be published for the American Math Society on exactly this topic: http://modular.math.washington..edu/edu/fall05/168/notes/modular_forms_book/ This book would play a key role in the workshop. The organizer wrote much of the software people use for modular forms computation, and is actively developing new software: http://modular.math.washington.edu/sage/ For detail on the scientific content and organization of the workshop go to Computing with Modular Forms Priority for this workshop is given to graduate students at MSRI Academic Sponsoring Institutions. If you are at one of these institutions, request your Director of Graduate Studies to nominate you. After these nominations are in, applicants will be considered for admission and possible funding, if such funding is still available. These considerations will take place before April 15, 2006.
