SLMath accepts applications or registrations for the following programs and opportunities. For full details, please see the pages linked below.

Propose a Program or Activity

We also invite proposals from the mathematical community for Scientific Programs, Summer Graduate Schools, Hot Topics Workshops, and Critical Issues in Mathematics Education (CIME) Workshops.

Scientific Programs

SLMath organizes and hosts semester-length collaborative research programs that become the leading edge in that field of study. Mathematicians worldwide come to the Institute to engage in the research of classical fundamental mathematics, modern applied mathematics, statistics, computer science and other mathematical sciences. SLMath uses MathJobs to process applications for its positions. Interested candidates must apply online at www.mathjobs.org/jobs/MSRI. Applications will open on August 15th for Research Professors and Research Members, and on October 1st for Postdoctoral Fellows.

2024-25 Application Deadlines:

Scientific Workshops

Each year, SLMath hosts a number of workshops (conferences) related to our scientific programs as well as topical workshops.

Workshop Registration Deadlines: Please see individual workshop webpages for details.

Workshop Funding Application Deadlines: Funding awards are typically made eight weeks before the workshop begins. Requests received after the funding deadlines are considered only if additional funds become available.

African Diaspora Joint Mathematics Workshop (ADJOINT)

ADJOINT is a two-week summer activity designed for researchers with a Ph.D. degree in the mathematical and statistical sciences who are interested in conducting research in a collegial environment. The main objective of ADJOINT is to provide opportunities for in-person research collaboration to U.S. mathematical and statistical scientists, especially those from the African Diaspora, who will work in small groups with research leaders on various research projects.

Summer 2024 Application Deadline: Applications received by January 15, 2024 will receive full consideration.

Summer Research in Mathematics Program

SLMath's Summer Research in Mathematics (SRiM) program provides space, funding, and the opportunity for in-person collaboration to small groups of mathematicians, especially women and gender-expansive individuals, whose ongoing research may have been disproportionately affected by various obstacles including family obligations, professional isolation, or access to funding.

Summer 2024 Application Deadline: Applications received by December 15, 2023 will receive full consideration.

Summer Graduate Schools

Every summer SLMath organizes several summer graduate schools (usually two weeks each), some of which are held at SLMath and others at partner institutions around the world.

Summer 2024 Application Deadline: Graduate students must be nominated by their Director of Graduate Studies. Nominations will be accepted beginning at 10:00am Pacific Time on December 1, 2022. SLMath accepts nominees on a first-come first-served basis up to the limits of the capacity of each summer school.

SLMath Undergraduate Program (MSRI-UP)

The SLMath Undergraduate Program (MSRI-UP) is a comprehensive summer program designed for undergraduate students who have completed two years of university-level mathematics courses and would like to conduct research in the mathematical sciences.

Summer 2024 Application Deadline: Applications submitted by February 15, 2024 will receive full consideration. (Applications submitted after February 15, 2024 but by March 1, 2024 may still be considered in a second round of acceptances.)
