Annie received her Ph.D. in 2014 from the Technische Universitaet Berlin under the supervision of Martin Groetschel. Her thesis was titled "Polyhedral Methods Applied to Extremal Combinatorics Problems". She then became an Acting Assistant Professor---a fancy name for a postdoc---at the University of Washington in Seattle. There, with her collaborators, she worked on exploiting symmetry in semidefinite programming, thus shedding light on a connection to the theory of flag algebras of Alexander Razborov. In January 2018, she will join the University of Massachusetts in Amherst as an assistant professor.
Annie is also passionate about outreach. She frequently gives talks to kids and teenagers, especially to girls and other segments of the population underrepresented in the mathematical community. Moreover, for the past two years, she has been volunteering in prisons where she teaches mathematics to inmates. She is grateful that she has had the opportunity to witness the profoundly transformative nature of education. |
