A considerable amount of research activity in recent years has been devoted to the study of nonlinear partial differential equations of Monge-Ampere type (MATEs) in connection with their applications to conformal geometry, optimal transportation and geometric optics. In this talk we plan to skim through a potpouri of recent results pertaining to  the underlying structural condition for regularity originating in a paper in 2005 by Ma, Wang and myself.
