In the minicourse I will discuss several classes of representations of fundamental groups of surfaces in semisimple Lie groups of higher rank that have several geometric features in common with holonomies of hyperbolizations. Among others we will encounter maximal, Hitchin and partially hyperconvex representations, and we will show that these representations satisfy a collar lemma, and admit equivariant boundary maps whose image is surprisingly regular.
