In this talk, I will introduce some basic notions of hyperbolic geometry in the disk and upper half plane. I want to show how this geometry interacts with complex analysis through two concrete applications. First, we will calculate a covering map from the disk and the thrice punctured sphere. Second, we will discuss the Gehring Hayman Inequality which roughly says that hyperbolic geodesic are not much longer than other paths connecting two points. I am happy to make any detours the audience requests!
This seminar is for postdocs and PhD students and we kindly ask faculty not to attend.
