I will present some concrete applications of the theory of typical/atypical intersections recently developed with Bruno Klinger and Emmanuel Ullmo. We will start by finding genus 4 curves with specific Mumford—Tate groups, discuss improvement on the Lawrence-Venkatesh method, and conclude with a geometric characterisation of non-arithmetic complex hyperbolic lattices (joint with E. Ullmo).
