Seattle girl chosen for the U.S. math team competes internationally

Shijie Joy Zheng, a senior at Phillips Exeter Academy, was chosen to participate on a team of high school girls from throughout the United States who will compete in the 2010 China Girls Mathematical Olympiad (CGMO).

This will be her third time competing at the CGMO. She was a gold medalist last year.

The team of eight members will be sent to the international competition, which will be held Aug. 9–13 in Shijiazhuang, China, capital of Hebei Provence. Competitors will come from China, other East Asian countries including Russia, the United States, Canada, South Africa, United Kingdom, and Australia.

The high school students on the team were chosen from the top ranks of the female finalists in the 2010 USA Mathematical Olympiad (USAMO) by the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute.
