From January 17, 2022, MSRI / SLMath is open to vaccinated members of the mathematical community. The building is closed to the general public until further notice. Most scientific activities will have a hybrid component for remote participation, with instructions sent to registered participants.
The health and safety of the SLMath community is our top priority at this time. We have made many operational changes to comply with recommendations of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and state and local governments, as well as advice from a distinguished epidemiologist at University of California, Berkeley.
Updates to SLMath COVID-19 Safety Protocols - January 10, 2023
- SLMath continues to require that staff and members be fully vaccinated from COVID-19, unless they have requested and been provided a medical or religious exemption.
- SLMath no longer requires a negative COVID-19 test upon arrival and will not conduct weekly COVID testing. All are encouraged to maintain a personal supply of self-test kits and we will provide you with the locations of PCR testing sites so that you can use them as needed.
- Wearing a mask indoors at SLMath (in particular in the lecture halls) is strongly encouraged and respecting individual choices promotes a collegial atmosphere. SLMath will maintain a supply of masks near the front door for those who need them.
- Evaluate your health and stay home if you feel sick or if you tested positive for COVID-19. SLMath has the infrastructure in-place to allow remote attendance of most activities. Please attend remotely if you are sick, and do not risk infecting others by visiting the building.
- If you develop COVID-19, please alert the Operations Manager (Arthur Bossé, abosse@slmath.org) so that he can provide you with resources and ensure that your SLMath close contacts have been confidentially notified of a possible exposure. You can rest assured of complete confidentiality.
- It is preferable to consume food outdoors when weather permits.
As COVID-19 continues to impact the community, we will monitor infection rates and keep you informed about significant changes in Berkeley. We may adjust the protocols according to local regulation or guidance and will let you know if/when that happens.
